Mr. Wilson Greatbatch needs little introduction. The inventor of the first successful implantable pacemaker and batteries that power most of the ICD’s and pacemakers in the world today, Mr. Greatbatch’s work has touched the lives of over 10 million people around the world.
Mr. Wilson Greatbatch is the inventor of the first successful implantable pacemaker. He is a graduate
of the Cornell School of Engineering and holds a MSEE from SUNY at Buffalo. He is an inventor or co-inventor
on more than 300 US and foreign patents. He has been inducted into five halls of fame, and has been elected to
fellow grade in nine international professional societies. He holds adjunct professorships in five colleges and
universities and has ben given six honorary doctorates. He has founded numerous companies, including his
namesake: Greatbatch, Inc. and is presently Chairman of the Board of GentCorp, Ltd (formerly Greatbatch
Enterprises Corp.)
Mr. Greatbatch is more than his vast accomplishments indicate. He is in his ninth decade of life and still working creatively. He continues to apply for patents, mostly related to power sources and energy for the next millennium. His beliefs are straightforward. He judges his activities by asking: “Is it good in the Lord’s sight?” And he greatly admires the prayer of Jabez: “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coasts, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil.” His business criteria are similarly simple: make a quality product, better and cheaper that anyone else and always tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth in all your dealings.
